Addressing the problem of HIV/AIDS in all Programmes
1. Training and establishing committees at all levels
To ensure that politicians, senior leaders, religious institutions are front liners in guiding, assisting and activating their communities to respond.
2. Training people from the community.
Teachers, religious leaders, youth, women, agriculture representatives, girls, farmers, health personnel, bar workers, traditional healers, traditional leaders, persons living with AIDS, orphans etc
3. Production of leaflets /pamphlets
Produced together with the relevant government offices and religious leaders and distributed at community level to the various target groups
4. Establishing Anti AIDS clubs in schools
Trained teachers promote Anti AIDS clubs in the schools - involving the students to actively take up the issue of HIV/AIDS.
5. Care of orphans
The number of orphan children is indeed increasing rapidly –and traditional coping mechanisms are overstretched, resulting in growing streetism.
6. Care and support for Persons Living with AIDS (PLWAS)
PLWAS are trained in how they could move forward and form an association - so that the group becomes stronger and they become front liners in prevention activities.
7. Radio programmes for the general public and especially for school students
Radio reaches all sectors of the community and is a powerful means of dispersing messages to very rural areas.
8. Support to Health structures
Health structures are really not capable to cope with this epidemic if larger amounts of funds are not available to them even the basic quantities of needles syringes and gloves are far from adequate.
